Hello, and Thank You for Your Visit.
One of my favorite quotes, presumably from Confucius is: "If we do not change direction, we are liable to end up where we are headed." The essence of this statement, I believe, is the reason my clients show up at my door.
Now, that being said, does this mean that my clients have some kind of mental condition, diagnosis such as major depression, acute anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, etc? Sometimes such diagnoses may be appropriate but not usually. Most often, my clients are simply interested changing their life situation— adjusting their life's flight pattern, so to speak. They are interested in making adjustments, sometimes difficult and complicated ones, in order to make their lives more meaningful and happy.
Taking the First Step
Taking the first step toward counseling can sometimes be difficult. It may be helpful to think of our work together as an opportunity. That is, exploring your life journey and goals for the future with a professional who has the proper background, training, and experience, can help you discover what is most important in your life. From there, a therapist can also help to provide you with the tools to achieve realistic goals.
My Role
I view my role in this process as walking
beside you as your ally. My job is to understand
where you are on your chosen path and what you would like to change
about it. I can then offer my skills to help move along this path.
I will never take the position of knowing more about you than you do. I have never "lived in your skin." I can offer you is this: My expertise as a qualified and experienced Arizona Licensed Professional Counselor.
Your Role
Where we go on our journey is largely up to my client. You tell me your intended destination, and my promise to you is that I will do my best to help you arrive there.
